Healthy Holiday Habits

By on December 25, 2009

Let me preface this by saying… above all, have fun! Special occasions are not the time to worry about diet. However, one night of binging can cause us to begin to crave all the wrongs foods and/or wake up puffy and blurry eyed. I know for me… one chip and I’m hooked! Before going to parties, consider eating something light. Like going to the grocery store hungry, you end up buying and eating things you may regret later. As you enjoy festivities…

Eat slowly by chewing thoroughly – chew your food to a liquid. Make a portion of your meal raw by adding a salad, or simply lining your plate with something green (spinach, kale, arugula). Raw foods have enzymes. Add a probiotic to your meal, such as sauerkraut, kefir, or kombucha, and by all means… STOP before feeling “stuffed.” Eating slowly will allow you to get full on less, if seconds are wanted, wait 15 minutes before going back for more. Between meals and throughout the day, drink plenty of water. Drinking water at least half hour before helps you eat less, weigh less, and helps get you full sooner. Note** sipping on kombucha or hot tea with ginger will help with digestion.

Holiday CelebrationsIt’s not what we do on the holidays or special occasions that make or break our health – it is what we do most hours of the day and days of the week that will get you looking and feeling your very best!

CHEERS & BON APPETIT… just remember to savor the taste to lessen thy waist.
