Kambo Cleanse — My Kinda Vaccine!
While some sport their tattoos proudly, I wear my sites of injection with honor.
“‘Kambô’, ‘campu’, ‘sapo’, ‘vacino da floresta.’ These are all names for the waxy secretion of a tree frog living in the northwestern part of the Amazon rainforest (in Colombia and on the border between Peru and Brazil). The scientific name for this frog is ‘Phyllomedusa bicolor’ or ‘Giant Monkey frog’. In this article, I will use the name ‘Kambô.’ Originally, 53 tribes used this secretion but now only 13 small tribes still use it. It is used to get rid of ‘panema’, the name they give to bad luck, as well as for ‘hunting magic’ and as a powerful medicine against snake bites, malaria, yellow fever and other epidemic diseases.” ~Giovanni Lattanzi~
***NOTE: frogs are not injured on behalf of giving their medicine.
Now that I’ve done what some refer to as… Put myself in the laboratory, I can introduce my Kambo cleanse experience. And although, we’ve gotta learn to crawl before we can walk, Kambo can be done as a novice. However, I recommend having a least a few other cleanses under your belt first. That, and do a Kambo cleanse under the watchful eye of a shaman or medicine man/woman. It is a scared cleanse and should be treated as such. For best results, a wholesome diet before the cleanse is recommended. As is being plenty hydrated. Without getting water logged of course.
“There is no secret in Kambô application: with a piece of ember vine, one burns the arm several times, opening small holes in the skin (called points). The application of the resin diluted in water is carried over the skin and moves quickly to the entire body by the lymphatic vessels.” ~Marcelo Bolshaw Gomes, Professor of Sociology of Comunication, UFRN (Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte)~
***Although injection may sound painful, it wasn’t.
A few of the benefits include: it wakes up the body’s organs—it also restores the endocrine and defense systems to their natural functions. Learning about the many benefits and powerful effects of Kambo, I was eager to finish my treatment.
“Basic treatment is three doses, given at intervals of time which depend on the capacity of the person to take kambô. According to this method, the interval between two treatments should be a maximum of 28 days, or one moon. Longer than that, then the kambô will have to do all its work all over again.” ~Giovanni Lattanzi~
Kambo is a fast acting cleanse with short and long term effects. And from what I saw, most react in the same way. Face becomes flushed and person begins to purge almost profusely. I’m talking, bucket after bucket of yellow, brown and/or green waste.
However, unlike everyone purging, I sat very Zen-like twice. Waiting for my purge to begin. Shaman reapplied Kambo my first day. Others came by and wet my medicine to reactivate, yet nothing happened. Only purge I got was a few tears rolling down my cheeks and less than 2 cups of clear liquid. I did however have 4 solid bowel movements throughout day.
2nd day I thought for sure I’d purge/vomit like everyone else. Especially since my 2nd Ayahuasca ceremony did not include an ounce of purging. But nope. Again, I sat waiting for the purge to begin. Gals in charge thought it was because I didn’t drink enough water. Quite the contrary. I had a good 1 1/2 gallons in me. Feeling like a beached whale with nothing coming out.
2nd dose did bring about a short bout of face flushing, pressure on ears and feeling like my lips were swelling. One side effect is… resembling a frog. But, despite these sensations, nothing on purge. Not even a bowel movement this time.
Kambo doesn’t just cleanse us on physical level, it works on our spirit.
While I know I have toxins in me left to purge, 2 rounds of a Kambo cleanse weren’t enough to budge any out. Perhaps eating extra healthy and light due to the spiritual awakening symptoms was the reason. As were my 1 1/2 decades of detox. I do know, whether a cleanse, food poisoning or stomach flu, my body’s preferred method of purging is not vomiting. Nonetheless, I still found it hard to believe NOTHING came out, considering Kambo is known to cause projectile like vomiting. As witnessed first hand.
How this and any other detox effect me, will vary to how it affect you. Our level of toxicity (in body, mind & spirit) is different. And for that reason, each have a huge effect on reactions/results. The spirit aspect of it even more so with the Kambo cleanse.
Do realize, whether western medicine or Amazonian herbs, we must not be treated like a number. Or expect the same results as others. I can’t stress this enough. Especially now that I’ve experienced both sides of medicine in the world. And how some in charge expected the same reaction from all.
Whatever the medicine, our diet, body weight and detox experience will determine our dose, side effects and results. As will our mind and spirit.
I am happy my years of yearning to learn detox from around the world has begun. Two months ago I inquired with a buddy of mine on where I could get Ayahuasca. Silly me! I thought I could just buy the tea. Glad I didn’t. Thankfully I got a call from Puerto Rico and 3 days later I was on the mountain for my first ceremony. And not just one medicine, I was blessed to get 6 that weekend. May this be the tip of the iceberg of many more worldly cleanses to come.
A tad of a bummer on the kambo cleanse however. A sudden turn of events on the mountain cut the ceremonies short. So we did not receive our 3rd Kambo cleanse. I do wish to get it before the 28 day period.
I do know my body released and benefited some. I may not have purged outside my body like the others, but I did get dizzy with queasiness. I lessened my side effects by taking a charcoal/bentonite blend to soak up the toxins that were being released (just not eliminated). I was also given 2 thumbs up by the shaman to do coffee enemas upon my return. They helped tremendously!
In my humble opinion, old school no fluff folk remedies don’t get much better than this. They’re not only from Mother Earth, they are what Mother Nature intended. A FARMacy, not a pHARMacy. Getting toxins out via a purge, not putting more in via prescription drugs. Yes, there’s a time and a place for the latter, but not to the extent it’s become now.
