Move Over Chicken Nuggets…

By on January 1, 2013

you’re not the only item for human consumption that has flame retarders in you! Gatorade has come out from under the radar. It took a 15 year old to blow the whistle – she has since started a petition for PepsiCo to remove the toxic chemical, brominated vegetable oil (BVO). An ingredient used in furniture foam and baby products. Of the many potential health hazards it can create… autism, skin lesions, memory loss and nerve disorders (to name a few).

Other drinks that include BVO are Mountain Dew, Powerade, and orange flavored sodas. Used for beverage cosmetic purposes to help prevent the artificial flavoring from separating from the rest of the liquid. Two wrongs do not make a right! Artificial flavoring and flame retarders? What makes this even more crazy is that most could care less about the potential health hazardous consequences. Yet, these very same people don’t dare put anything in their gas tank other than what the “Manufacturer” calls for.

On the upside, article gives coconut water as a great sports drink replacement and I wholeheartedly agree, EXCEPT… I do not agree with buying bottled coconut waters. You can make your own straight from the source. Simply buy young white ones by the case, open (I’ll post a How To video soon), pour water/milk into blender, scoop out meat, and blend up. Entire case will give you 1 gallon (+/-) of fresh delicious coconut water. You can also dilute with water (like many bottled versions do). All this for around $10. Best to buy at large Asian markets.

I drink a lot of coconut water. It balances out all the other toxic stuff I put into my body.   ~Rihanna~
