We Are Not A Number – STOP Treating Us Like One!

By on January 16, 2013

Whatever the issue, whether in business, health, personal, etc., there is no one-size-fits-all cause, cure, or approach to a-n-y-t-h-i-n-g! It is a major pet peeve of mine to be treated like a number. I’ve fired TWO life coaches for this reason, then became certified Numbersmyself. Doctors are known for prescribing the same pill for every ill and handing out death sentences despite the individual. My father was told he’d die in three months, he was gone in two. My mother was told she’d live 18 months to 3 years with radiation and chemotherapy, she was gone in 6 months with daily (M-F) radiation and 3 rounds of chemotherapy.

I often times have to bite my tongue when I am treated far from the individual that I am. I realize there is some advice or treatment that works across the board, but most is so generic, it is pitiful! What I do not appreciate and do not hesitate to voice my opinion on is someone thinking I am the average American. I am far from it. From diet, to health, to business, to personal growth, to the way I dress, and more… I AM NOT! We were given a brain to think, to be a part of the puzzle, not forced into a cookie cutter mold.  I hired my first coach to help me start a nonprofit; instead she wanted me to plan a family reunion. Crazy ridiculous, so I fired her. The second coach I wanted help in growing my business, she told me to get a job, so I fired her. 2013 marks my 9th year of not having a job mostly because I do not think like those that do.

We are each here for specific a reason – it is a shame to not honor (and find) that reason. Living for a paycheck and not a purpose works for many, but in reality that is not being true to ourselves – it is living life on autopilot. Yes, there is a job out there for everyone, it is what makes the world go round. But, most people I know that have a job, do not like it. This could very well be the reason many numb themselves with food, shopping, sex, drugs, alcohol, television, computer and more. Why? Often times to avoid the pain they have inside. I’ve always said, it is better to be miserable for a short amount of time than the rest of our lives.

If you are going through hell, keep going.  ~Winston Churchill~

How does one find their purpose? I can tell you from personal experience that diet and detox have helped me in body, mind, and spirit. Forgiveness is also huge. We all need quiet and fasting times to help us think, eat, drink, and even dress the way that only we could, and should. I find it sad and funny to see a group of friends that all look the same from head to toe. To me, this is a perfect example of not thinking/being yourself.

If everyone ate a real food diet and detoxed/cleansed regularly, they’d have a mind of their own. Just as our vehicle needs an oil change regularly, our body needs the gunk removed as well. Doing this can help us each find our divine design, our purpose, our passion… our reason for jumping out of bed each day (and hopefully without an alarm).

A question to ask yourself is… if money was not an object, what would you spend your time doing. For me, my favorite past time was learning about disease prevention and natural healing. Today it is my job that I cannot get enough of. We mustn’t settle for being treated like a number – not now, not ever, not for anything by anyone! We are each unique and should be handled as such. Not honoring your own divine design may very well set the stage for dis-ease, whereas living on purpose allows us to be at ease.
